Dolphins are the only animals apart from humans to develop a natural form of type 2 diabetes. This discovery offers important insights into a disease that is linked to one in 20 deaths. Scientists have discovered that dolphins show a form of insulin resistance very similar to that seen in human diabetes. However, unlike patients with the condition, the marine mammals can turn this state on and off when appropriate.

Report: 8 out of 10 men in England will be obese by 2020...

Eight out of 10 men and nearly seven out of 10 women in England will be too fat by 2020, according to new data released Wednesday. Some 41 percent of men aged 20 to 65 will be obese by 2020, with 40 percent overweight, according to the figures from the National Heart Forum, based on data from the Health Survey for England. That makes a total of 81 percent.

Breast cancer survivors who take aspirin regularly may be less likely to die or have their cancer return, U.S. researchers reported Tuesday. The study of more than 4,000 nurses showed that those who took aspirin — usually to prevent heart disease — had a 50 percent lower risk of dying from breast cancer and a 50 percent lower risk that the cancer would spread.
